ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -New Mexico coach Steve Alford says he had opportunities to leave Albuquerque after the most successful season in school history.
He says his agent “got several calls.” But the coach says he directed his agent not to return any calls because he’s happy at New Mexico.
Alford spoke Tuesday at a news conference where school officials disclosed details from a contract extension he signed earlier this month. It runs through 2020.
He’s getting a raise. Alford will receive total compensation of $1,149,200 over the next year, an increase of $145,000.
In three seasons under Alford, the Lobos have won or shared two Mountain West titles. Last season, they went 30-5 to set a school record for wins.
