LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Federal prosecutors say a Louisville woman falsely accused an auto glass salesman of sexual harassment before using a similar scheme on basketball coach Rick Pitino.
Prosecutors said in court documents Wednesday that Karen Sypher (SY’-fur) falsely accused the salesman of sexual harassment in 1999 after a sexual relationship ended and she was fired.
Assistant U.S. Attorney John E. Kuhn Jr. says Sypher’s attempt resulted in a lawsuit but no criminal charges. The lawsuit was settled in 2002, but the terms were not disclosed.
Sypher faces a July 26 trial on charges she attempted to extort $10 million from Pitino, the University of Louisville basketball coach. Sypher has pleaded not guilty.
Sypher’s attorney, James Earhart, was in court and not immediately available to comment.
