ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Georgia forward Yante Maten will return for his senior season, coach Mark Fox said Tuesday night.
Maten applied for early entry to the NBA draft last month. Because he didn’t hire an agent, Maten had until Wednesday to withdraw his name and stay eligible with the Bulldogs.
Fox spoke with Maten several times over the last few weeks.
”Obviously, we are thrilled he chose to come back for his senior season,” Fox said. ”His education has also been very important to him since he arrived on campus, and he will have a better path towards graduation now that he is back.”
Maten ranked fourth with an 18.2 scoring average and was ninth in rebounding in the Southeastern Conference. Georgia went 19-15, including 9-9 in the SEC, and lost in the first round of the NIT.
