INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – National champion Duke and perennial powerhouse Kentucky topped the list of men’s basketball teams singled out by the NCAA for academic achievement Wednesday.
Public recognition awards are earned by finishing in the top 10 percent of a sport based on Academic Progress Rate scores. Any school with a perfect score of 1,000 also is recognized.
One point is awarded each semester for each player who remains academically eligible and another point for those who stay in school.
In 2013-14, 1,124 teams received the honor with a record 953 posting perfect marks. Actual scores will be released next week.
Duke was one of eight national championship teams to make the list.
Dartmouth had 26 teams recognized, the most in the country. Brown, Bucknell and Stanford were next with 19 each.
