LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – Caleb Swanigan of Fort Wayne, the reigning Indiana Mr. Basketball, plans to play for Purdue next season.
Swanigan’s guardian, Roosevelt Barnes, tells the Journal & Courier (http://on.jconline.com/1S80sY7 ) the 6-foot-9 Swanigan chose Purdue because he wants to win a national championship in Indiana at a school that hasn’t done it before.
Swanigan previously announced he would attend Michigan State before decommitting earlier this month.
Swanigan averaged 22.6 points and 13.7 rebounds last season in leading Homestead to the Class 4A state title. He is the first Indiana Mr. Basketball to commit to the Boilermakers since Gary’s Glenn Robinson in 1991.
Purdue returns four starters from a squad that finished 21-13 and tied for third in the Big Ten last season, losing in overtime to Cincinnati in the NCAA Tournament first round.
