NEW YORK (AP) – Jim Calhoun is enjoying the time since he led Connecticut to its third national championship and he’s in no rush to make a decision about retirement.
The 68-year-old Calhoun was honored Wednesday night with a Winged Foot Award from the New York Athletic Club.
Before the dinner he talked about the team’s White House visit and the impression President Barack Obama made on him and his players.
During the Huskies’ trip to Washington this week, Calhoun said he was able to get some private time with the president and compared notes on how much they rely on those around them. Calhoun said the players were excited about the president’s basketball knowledge.
Calhoun says he doesn’t expect to make a decision on retirement until next month at the earliest.
