HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -A judge has adjourned the drunken driving case against former Hofstra men’s basketball coach Tim Welsh until June 1.
Welsh has pleaded not guilty to aggravated driving while intoxicated and other charges following his arrest last Friday. He was stopped at a green light in Levittown at 1 a.m. when he was arrested. He is accused of having a blood-alcohol reading over 0.18, more than double the legal limit of 0.08.
Prosecutors said Tuesday that Welsh has hired a new defense attorney. The attorney did not immediately return a call for comment.
The 49-year-old Welsh resigned Monday, only a month after signing a five-year contract for $3 million at the Long Island school. Hofstra officials have yet to comment on a possible replacement for Welsh.
