TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (AP) – Sports broadcaster Bob Wolff, veteran basketball official Tim Higgins and former radio producer and announcer Joel Blumberg will receive this year’s distinguished service awards by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
Wolff, a member of both the national basketball and baseball Halls of Fame, began broadcasting basketball in 1939 and has the longest-running radio and TV sportscasting career in history.
Higgins has been an official for 35 years, including 10 Final Fours and four national championship games.
Blumberg produced radio broadcasts for nearly every New York area professional team and many colleges until his death on Dec. 17.
The trio will be honored at the NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner Tuesday night.
