FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) – George Mason athletic director Tom O’Connor figures that the Patriots’ basketball coaching job will be “a hot commodity” now that Jim Larranaga is gone.
The Patriots are looking for a replacement for Larranaga, who left the school Friday to become coach at the University of Miami.
O’Connor said GMU “couldn’t get into a contest” with the money offered by Miami, an Atlantic Coast Conference school with a major football program.
The beloved “Coach L” won 273 games over 14 seasons with the Patriots of the Colonial Athletic Association. He took the school to four NCAA tournament appearances, including a memorable Final Four run in 2006.
