NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -With several of his players leaving and his program under investigation, Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel has broken a monthlong silence with a message that there’s still hope for the Sooners in the future and he’s not looking to leave.
Since the end of a disappointing 13-18 season, Capel’s two leading scorers have left school early to turn pro. Another opted to transfer and a fourth decided to leave the team to raise his newborn child.
His top assistant, Oronde Taliaferro, also resigned.
All that comes as the school tries to determine whether Capel’s program has committed NCAA rules violations. The Sooners remain on probation from major violations under his predecessor, Kelvin Sampson.
Capel said Friday that “in order to get better, sometimes you have to cleanse.”
