DETROIT (AP) -Detroit hired Ray McCallum as its new men's basketball coach Friday, replacing the retired Perry Watson.
McCallum was Ball State's coach from 1993-2000, going 126-76 with two NCAA tournament bids, and then led Houston for four seasons. He was an assistant at Indiana the past two seasons.
Watson retired last month with a 258-185 record.
