WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (AP) – Several dozen Connecticut fans braved a cold rain to welcome home the national champion UConn Huskies as their plane arrived from Houston.
Coach Jim Calhoun and star guard Kemba Walker addressed the crowd in Windsor Locks, Conn., who had lined a fence near the runway where the Huskies’ charter flight landed before 3:30 p.m.
Calhoun noted they “left 80 degree weather but you know what – we’re home.” The 68-year-old coach reminded the crowd that he had said “if you stay with us, we’re going to make you feel so proud of us.”
The team, which beat Butler 53-41 Monday to complete a remarkable 11-0 run through the postseason, boarded buses for campus where a victory rally is scheduled later Tuesday.
