HOUSTON (AP) – Picked 10th in the Big East and an unknown entity even to its coach, Connecticut was viewed as little more than a one-man novelty.
That’s what makes the Huskies’ latest title perhaps their most impressive.
Led by All-American Kemba Walker, Connecticut finished off its improbable run to a third national title by bullying Butler for a 53-41 in Monday night’s NCAA championship game.
Walker carried the Huskies (32-9) almost single-handedly throughout the season and got plenty of help in the postseason, making Jim Calhoun the oldest coach to win a national championship at 68.
The title game wasn’t pretty, but the Huskies weren’t complaining after silencing all the doubters.
