INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -Butler center Matt Howard has been cleared to participate in the Bulldogs’ shootaround, but has not yet been given the OK to play in Monday night’s national championship game.
Team spokesman Jim McGrath said team doctors will continue to monitor Howard following the shootaround before deciding whether to let him play against Duke.
Howard watched Sunday’s practice after sustaining a concussion in Saturday’s 52-50 victory over Michigan State. The 6-foot-8 junior center took two blows to the head – hitting it hard on the floor after a collision, then taking an elbow to the head after returning to the game.
Howard averages 11.6 points and 5.2 rebounds was the 2008-09 Horizon League player of the year.
