RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -Virginia Commonwealth is set to introduce Shaka Smart as its new men’s basketball coach.
A news conference is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Siegel Center on the VCU campus.
The 32-year-old Smart was an assistant to Billy Donovan at Florida last season. He will become the second Donovan assistant to take over as the Rams’ head coach.
Anthony Grant, Donovan’s right-hand man for 10 years at Florida, spent the last three seasons as VCU’s head coach. Grant compiled a 76-25 record and led the Rams to two NCAA tournament appearances as champions of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.
Grant was hired last week to take over Alabama’s basketball program.
