INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -Hinkle Fieldhouse perhaps is best known as the place where Jimmy Chitwood drained the winning shot in the movie “Hoosiers.”
A week from now, it could also be home of the NCAA basketball champions.
Butler went undefeated this season in the building where scenes from the classic 1986 movie were shot. Now, the Bulldogs take their show 20 minutes down the road to play Michigan State on Saturday.
The Fieldhouse was built in 1928, and little has changed. Light shines in from rows of windows above the floor. The original wooden bleachers surround the arena, and the oak court creaks.
Much has happened there, including the shot that inspired “Hoosiers.” Bobby Plump hit the game winner to lead small Milan past Muncie Central in the 1954 Indiana state title game.
