EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -Michigan State coach Tom Izzo has already realized one of his dreams and it has nothing to do with national championships.
Izzo has wanted to build an elite program that has a family atmosphere. And he’s got it: A day after the Spartans advanced to the Final Four, former players Mateen Cleaves and Goran Suton joined the celebration at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.
Cleaves led the Spartans to their second national title a decade ago in Indianapolis – the site of this week’s Final Four – after Earvin “Magic” Johnson won their first against Larry Bird and Indiana State in 1979.
The former Michigan State players are expected to be in the stands Saturday when Izzo’s team plays Butler in the semifinals.
