WICHITA, Kan. (AP) – The government is asking a federal judge to put two former athletics department employees at the University of Kansas in prison for their roles in a $2 million ticket scalping scheme. The defense is seeking probation.
A federal court filing Tuesday by prosecutors argues that former assistant athletics director Rodney Jones frittered his money away on extensive partying. Prosecutors say he and others decimated the athletic department and deprived the university and its students of revenues for scholarships and other benefits.
The government is asking for a 46-month sentence for Jones.
It also is seeking 37 months in prison for Kassie Liebsch, a former systems analyst who worked in the ticket office.
Liebsch faces sentencing Wednesday and Jones on Thursday.
Both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
