As it searches for its third coach in as many years, Tennessee must find a candidate willing to overlook the program’s recent instability.
Tennessee is launching another coaching search after firing Donnie Tyndall on Friday due to the likelihood the NCAA would determine he committed serious violations while coaching Southern Mississippi from 2012-14. Tyndall’s successor will be Tennessee’s fourth coach in six years.
Volunteers athletic director Dave Hart believes the position remains attractive even after all the turnover because of Tennessee’s history and fan base. Tennessee has ranked among the nation’s top 15 programs in home attendance for 10 straight years.
Hart also said he’s been told Tennessee isn’t at risk of NCAA sanctions associated with the investigation of Tyndall’s Southern Mississippi tenure.
