SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) -Tyler Evans’ long 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer has given undefeated Findlay a 56-53 win over Cal Poly Pomona in the men’s Division II national champion game.
Evans came through with his dramatic shot Saturday as Findlay (Ohio) completed a perfect 36-0 season. The senior reserve guard hit from 26 feet for his only field goal of the game.
The Oilers are the fourth team to finish unbeaten since the Division II men’s tournament began in 1957.
Cal Poly Pomona (25-8) was trying to become the first unranked team to win the tournament since North Alabama in 1979. The Broncos overcame a 14-point deficit in the second half, and the score was tied 42-all after regulation.
