CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – The Charlotte 49ers hope Mark Price’s NBA knowledge will pay off at the college level.
The school introduced Price on Thursday as their new men’s basketball coach. He replaces Alan Major, who left the program after five years amid health problems and a lack of success on the floor.
Price, a former four-time NBA All-Star, has spent seven seasons coaching in the league, including the last two with the crosstown Charlotte Hornets. His only experience coaching at the college level came in the 1999-2000 season when he worked as an assistant on Bobby Cremins’ staff at his alma mater, Georgia Tech.
Price, 51, inherits a program that went 14-18 last season
Price says he’s ”extremely excited” about the opportunity and anxious to ”start a new era” at Charlotte.
