WACO, Texas (AP) -Tweety Carter knew he was taking a chance when he committed to play for Baylor.
The Bears still were reeling from a tragic scandal when the highest-scoring U.S. prep player ever said he’d play for the Bears.
Baylor’s program was ravaged in the summer of 2003 by the murder of a player by a teammate, and the aftermath caught former coach Dave Bliss in a web of lies and financial shenanigans.
Now Carter, the senior point guard, is playing in his second NCAA tournament. The Bears are in the round of 16 and will play Saint Mary’s on Friday night in Houston.
Carter says it’s “a blessing” to be part of the Bears, who have their third consecutive 20-win season and already have set a school record with 27 wins.
