JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (STATS) – Justin Tubbs made seven 3-pointers and scored 19 of his season-high 27 points in the first half to help East Tennessee State to an 82-73 home win over Ohio in the quarterfinals of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament on Tuesday night.
Tubbs, who scored 22 points in a 76-63 first-round win over Furman on March 15, went 10 of 17 from the field and 7 of 11 from 3-point range as ETSU (24-11) shot 52.9 percent overall.
Leading scorer Mike Smith had 24 points for the Buccaneers, who used a 12-0 first-half run to take an eight-point halftime lead and also scored the game’s final six points to secure a spot in the semifinals against Iona.
Smith is averaging 17.9 points on the season and 25.0 the last four games.
Senior DeVaughn Washington scored 21 points for Ohio, which finished 19-16.
