CLEVELAND (AP) – Xavier is one of only two programs to reach the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament in each of the last three seasons.
The road to a fourth for the sixth-seeded Musketeers (24-7) starts Friday against No. 11 Marquette (20-14). Guard Tu Holloway will be key to get Xavier there – and possibly beyond.
Holloway was the Atlantic 10 player of the year. He finished second in the conference in scoring (20.1 points) and was in the top 10 in just about every other major category. Holloway is the only Division I player with two triple-doubles.
The Golden Eagles compared Holloway to player of the year candidates like Connecticut’s Kemba Walker and BYU’s Jimmer Fredette.
Marquette and Xavier are both in the NCAA tournament for a sixth straight year.
