CLEVELAND (AP) – Syracuse’s zone defense has stifled teams for decades. Indiana State wants to avoid being its next victim.
The third-seeded Orange, who survived the Big East’s meat grinder this season, will meet the 14th-seeded Sycamores on Friday in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Knocked out last year by Butler, Syracuse (26-7) is hoping to make another deep run this March.
Under first-year coach Greg Lansing, the Sycamores (20-13) are making their first appearance in the tournament since 2001. The school was put on college basketball’s map in 1979 by Hall of Fame legend Larry Bird, who has been supporting this year’s team.
