NEW ORLEANS (AP) -When Baylor’s Tweety Carter and Sam Houston State’s Ashton Mitchell meet in their shared hometown of New Orleans, it’s usually as friends.
On Thursday, the senior point guards will be going head-to-head in what will be the last career game for one of them.
Carter is from the town of Reserve, just west of New Orleans. He’s played a key role in getting Baylor back to the NCAA tournament for the second time in three seasons. Now he wants to help the Bears get their first tournament win in six decades.
Mitchell was the assist leader for Sam Houston, which won the Southland Conference tournament to secure its first NCAA bid since 2003.
Carter and Mitchell played each other in youth basketball, but never before in college.
