DAYTON, Ohio (AP) – An apologetic Southern California coach Kevin O’Neill is eager to get back to basketball.
O’Neill, suspended for the Pac-10 semifinal after a verbal confrontation with a fan, began his remarks Tuesday by apologizing for his behavior. He says he was concerned he might get fired and is happy to be on the sidelines for the Trojans’ first-round NCAA tournament game against Virginia Commonwealth on Wednesday night.
It has been an up-and-down season for USC (19-14) and VCU (23-11). Most bracketologists had both teams on the outside looking into the tournament. Now, each hopes to advance to take on sixth-seeded Georgetown on Friday in Chicago.
