EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -Michigan State coach Tom Izzo says the month of March rejuvenates him.
That makes sense: The Spartans have advanced to the Final Four five times in the past 11 years and won the school’s second championship a decade ago.
Izzo has led his team to 13 straight NCAA tournaments, the third-longest streak in the country and second-best run in Big Ten history. His winning percentage ranks fifth among active coaches.
Still, Izzo is nervous about Friday’s first-round game in Spokane, Wash. He says 12th-seeded New Mexico Staet makes enough 3-pointers to concern him.
If Michigan State avoids an upset, it will play the winner of the Maryland-Houston game on Sunday.
