COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Top-ranked Ohio State will be staying close to home in the NCAA tournament.
The Buckeyes (33-2), who captured the Big Ten tournament title on Sunday to go with the regular-season title, are the No. 1 seed in the East Region – and No. 1 overall – and will play the winner of Texas-San Antonio (19-13) and Alabama State (17-17) at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena in a second-round game on Friday. UTSA and Alabama State, both No. 16 seeds, meet in the inaugural First Four tournament at the University of Dayton on Wednesday.
Ohio State is 45-25 in NCAA play, and will be going to the big tournament for the fifth time in coach Thad Matta’s seven seasons.
The Buckeyes defeated Penn State 71-60 in the conference tournament finale in Indianapolis on Sunday.
