TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) – As his players worked their way through the student section at the McKale Center, Arizona coach Sean Miller smiled near midcourt.
Even he couldn’t have predicted this quick of a turnaround.
A tradition-rich program that had fallen into disarray the past few years, Arizona completed its return to prominence this season by capturing its first Pac-10 title in six years.
Led by star sophomore Derrick Williams, the young Wildcats surpassed all expectations by winning 25 games and head into next week’s Pac-10 tournament as the No. 1 seed.
After that, Arizona likely will be headed to the NCAA tournament, which it missed last year after a 25-year run.
