MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) – Kansas State is the hottest team going into the Big 12 tournament because coach Frank Martin took the biggest gamble of his coaching career – and won.
In January, with the team floundering and the season teetering on the brink, Martin decided to change offenses. He knew he was taking a chance asking his players to forget what they’d been doing and try something different.
But they went from an attack that featured working the ball into the low post to a spread out formation with more spacing among players.
It took a few games for everyone to get the hang of it. But now the Wildcats have won six in a row and eight of nine. And guard Jacob Pullen has been unleashed, vaulting into contention for conference player of the year.
