RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -Charles Jenkins scored 27 points and dished out nine assists to lead Hofstra to a 79-66 win over North Carolina-Wilmington on Friday in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association basketball tournament.
The Pride’s bench totaled 32 rebounds, leading Hofstra (21-10) to a 43-30 edge on the boards. Greg Washington scored 14 points and matched a career-high with 12 rebounds off the bench, while Cornelius Vines had 13 points and Nathaniel Lester added 10.
The fifth-seeded Pride, who have won seven of their last eight games, will face fourth-seeded Old Dominion in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Trailing 39-29 at the halftime, UNC Wilmington (7-25) cut the margin to 41-35 with 17:29 left. But the Pride used a 21-10 run, sparked by Jenkins’ 10 points, to claim a 62-45 lead with 8:51 remaining.
The Seahawks never got the margin back under 10.
