LOS ANGELES (AP) -John Wooden was up and about Wednesday and his medication was changed to alleviate an irregular heartbeat, six days after the former UCLA basketball coach was hospitalized after breaking his left wrist and collarbone in a fall.
The 97-year-old coaching great fell at home last Thursday. His wrist is in a cast and it was not known when he would leave the undisclosed hospital.
Wooden’s daughter, Nan Muehlhausen, said doctors had adjusted his medication.
“Dad looks better today than he did yesterday and he isn’t as drowsy from his pain medication,” she said in a statement. “His appetite is better today and he was up and around for about an hour and a half.”
Wooden coached the Bruins to an unsurpassed 10 NCAA championships in the 1960s and ’70s, including consecutive titles from 1967-73. His teams also had an 88-game winning streak.
