EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) -Jean Cajou scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half to lead Mount St. Mary’s to a 72-62 win over Wagner in the Northeast Conference tournament quarterfinals on Thursday night.
Mount St. Mary’s (18-12), the defending NEC champions and the tournament’s second seed, advance to the semifinals for the third straight season to face third-seeded Sacred Heart on Sunday night.
With the scored tied at 52-52 with 6:41 left in the second half, Mount St. Mary’s scored seven straight points to take a 59-52 advantage. Justin Drummond’s 3-pointer with 2:28 left cut the lead to 61-59 for Wagner (16-14).
But Cajou, who went 3 of 6 from beyond the arc, hit a 3-pointer and made two free throws to push Mount St. Mary’s margin to seven points with 1:07 remaining to pull away.
Joey Mundweiler led Wagner with 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting from 3-point range.
