PHILADELPHIA (AP) – All No. 4 Pittsburgh has to do is beat Villanova to win the outright Big East championship and earn a No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
This conference finale for both teams had all the signs of an epic showdown earlier this year. Instead, the No. 19 Wildcats are in a major slump. They have lost three straight games and five of seven overall.
The Panthers clinched at least a share of the league title this week with a 66-50 victory over struggling South Florida.
They’ll be No. 1 alone with a win Saturday at home. Pitt is 5-3 vs. Top 25 teams and already defeated Villanova this season.
Pittsburgh has won each of the last seven consecutive games in Pittsburgh including a 3-0 record vs. the Wildcats in the Petersen Events Center.
