SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -Travis Strong's jumper with 17 seconds left forced overtime and Jacolby Davis scored 7 of his 11 points in the extra period to lift East Tennssee State to an 86-80 victory over USC Upstate on Saturday. The Spartans (7-23, 5-11 Atlantic Sun Conference) led by as much as 9 points in the second half and were still ahead 71-69 on Bobby Davis' two foul shots with 27 seconds to go. That's when Strong followed with his game-tying shot. USC Upstate turned the ball over with four seconds remaining on its final possession in regulation. Kenyona Swader hit a foul shot and a basket to put the Buccaneers (18-12, 11-5) ahead for good 74-71. Then Jacolby Davis took over, scoring seven of his team's next nine points. His foul shot with 2:18 remaining put East Tennessee up 79-72. USC Upstate could not rally. Courtney Pigram led East Tennessee with 22 points. Strong had 16 points and Swader 15. Luke Payne had 24 points to lead USC Upstate. |
