WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) – Dave Calloway has resigned as Monmouth University’s basketball coach after 14 seasons.
School President Paul Gaffney announced Calloway’s decision Sunday, one day after the Hawks dropped an 88-66 decision to Sacred Heart to conclude a 9-21 season. It also marked the fifth straight losing season for Monmouth.
Gaffney said the school would conduct a national search for Calloway’s replacement, adding that he’s been offered a post with the school’s administration.
Calloway, who did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment, played for the Hawks before starting his coaching career there as a graduate assistant in 1991. He became a full-time assistant a few months later and assumed the top spot in January 1998 following Wayne Szoke’s resignation.
Calloway’s resignation was first reported by the Asbury Park Press of Neptune.
