LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) – Point guard Tyshawn Taylor will remain suspended Saturday when No. 3 Kansas travels to Oklahoma – raising to 32 the number of games Jayhawks players have missed because of injury, tragedy, misbehavior or NCAA rules.
Coach Bill Self confirmed Thursday that Taylor would miss a second straight game for violating unspecified team rules. In his place will be sophomore Elijah Johnson.
Self also admitted that he did not think the Jayhawks would be 26-2 at this point in the season, given the fact they had lost two NBA lottery picks and the winningest player in school history from last year’s team. The fact so many players have been sidelined for parts of the year makes the success of the 2010-11 team even more improbable.
