CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – Miami officials say forward Tonye Jekiri was cleared to return to Saturday’s game against Louisville after one of the Cardinals’ team doctors determined he did not have a concussion.
Jekiri was shaken up after Louisville’s Montrezl Harrell threw a ball in his face in the first half of what became the Cardinals’ 55-53 victory. A Miami trainer suspected Jekiri was concussed, and the Hurricanes say Louisville’s doctor then checked his condition.
After the game, Louisville coach Rick Pitino questioned why ”that Miami doctor” would have allowed Jekiri to return if a concussion was suspected.
Miami athletic director Blake James said Monday that they would never play a concussed player.
Louisville officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
