 CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - James Thomas had 26 points and 12 rebounds as Sam Houston State defeated Central Arkansas 80-75 on Saturday night.
Will Bond added 15 points and Darius Gatson 13 for the Bearkats (14-11, 7-6 Southland Conference), who took the lead for good while holding the Bears without a field goal for a 4:31 stretch in the final minutes.
Robert Crawford had 21 points and LaQuentin Miles 19 for Central Arkansas (9-15, 4-10), which shot 14.3 percent (3 of 21) from 3-point range.
Crawford's 3-point basket gave the Bears a 57-55 lead with 6:02 remaining, but the lengthy field-goal drought began after that. Meanwhile, Bond's 3-pointer and 12 points by Thomas keyed a 17-3 run.
Sam Houston State shot 30 for 45 (66.7 percent) from the free-throw line, with 18 of the makes in the final 6:24.
