DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -Aaron Jackson scored 17 points and Shawn James hit two big 3-pointers down the stretch to lead Duquesne past Dayton 63-61 on Saturday. Dayton (16-7, 4-6 Atlantic 10) led by 12 points in the first half and was ahead 39-34 at the half. The Dukes (16-7, 6-4) grabbed the lead and then held off Dayton on consecutive possessions before James hit a shot behind the arc with 2:29 left to push the lead to 60-55. After Brian Roberts, who led the Flyers with 22 points, answered with a 3-pointer, James hit another 3 with 1:52 remaining. Marcus Johnson's layup with 21 seconds left cut the deficit to two before the Dukes threw the inbounds pass out of bounds. Dayton's Andres Sandoval then missed a 3-pointer just before the buzzer. James finished with 11 and Kieron Achara added 12 points for Duquesne. Johnson had 11 for the Flyers, who had more rebounds (38-31) and shot better from the field (51 percent to 41 percent) but turned the ball over 17 times to just eight for the Dukes. |
