NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) -Junior guard Jeremy Chappell scored five straight points to lift Robert Morris University to an 80-74 win over Central Connecticut State Thursday night. Chappell's jumper with 1:58 remaining gave Robert Morris (20-6, 11-2 NEC) a 69-68 lead. Central Connecticut (12-13, 8-6) closed its deficit to four in the final 30 seconds, but senior forward A.J. Jackson highlighted the victory with just six seconds to go on a feed from senior guard Tony Lee. Shemik Thompson hit a pair of lay-ups for the Blue Devils, while Ken Horton and Marcus Palmer each added baskets. Robert Morris called a 30-second time-out and scored five of the game's next six points to close its deficit to three, 48-45. But Thompson and Horton each hit a pair from the free-throw line to give CCSU a 52-45 cushion. |
