LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - The University of Massachusetts-Lowell will move up to Division I next year and join the America East Conference.
The school planned a news conference for Thursday and confirmed the move on Wednesday night.
UMass-Lowell had been in the Division II Northeast-10 Conference except in hockey, which is a member of Division I Hockey East.
The school doesn't have a football team.
