STORRS, Conn. (AP) -Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun says he will not commit to coaching beyond this season, even though his 3 1/2-week medical leave of absence did nothing to diminish his desire to coach basketball.
Calhoun spoke Friday for the first time since leaving the team on Jan. 18, a span of seven games. He refused to detail the medical condition that caused him to take time off.
The Hall of Fame coach typically decides whether he will continue to coach during the summer, and said that policy has not changed. He added that his focus is now on this season and helping the Huskies finish strong.
Connecticut (14-10, 4-7 Big East) won its first two games under associate head coach George Blaney, including an upset of then-No. 1 Texas. But the Huskies are just 1-4 since.
