IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -Iowa coach Todd Lickliter says sophomore guard Anthony Tucker has been released from his scholarship.
Lickliter says in a statement that Tucker requested the release, ending a tumultuous two-year stint with the Hawkeyes.
Tucker plead guilty to public intoxication in late December after being arrested following a dispute with a taxi driver. He was suspended following that incident and hasn’t played since.
It was the second alcohol-related offense for Tucker, a native of Minnetonka, Minn.
He was also suspended in December 2008 after being unconscious in an alley behind a bar. He was later ruled academically ineligible for the rest of the 2008-09 season.
Tucker averaged 11 points in 25 career games with the Hawkeyes.
