FRISCO, Texas (AP) -The Southland Conference upheld on Tuesday the one-game suspension of Texas State’s Brent Benson, who was disciplined for being involved in the bench clearing-brawl last week between the Bobcats and Southeastern Louisiana.
Both teams were reprimanded by the league for fighting in the Feb. 4 game.
Southeastern Louisiana’s Chris Cyprian was also suspended for the altercation last week and sat out Saturday’s game with Texas-San Antonio.
M-Corpus Christi.
The fight broke out in the second half of the SE Louisiana-Texas State. Benson, Cyprian and two other players were ejected.
“It was an altercation that was very regrettable and is not what we stand for,” Southeastern head coach Jim Yarbrough said in a statement posted on the team’s Web site about Cyprian’s suspension. “There is no room for fighting in this game.”
