NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -Andrew Puzyk scored 16 points and Baron Sauls added 15 as Houston Baptist defeated New Jersey Institute of Technology 65-49 Tuesday night.
N.J. Tech (1-22) jumped to an early 11-3 lead as freshman Isaiah Wilkerson scored seven points in the game’s first eight minutes. Houston Baptist (3-20) battled back to tie the game at 12 on a jumper by Sauls with 9:25 to go in the half.
The teams exchanged baskets for the next six minutes before Houston Baptist pulled away with a 24-4 run spanning the last three minutes of the first half and the first 6:28 after intermission.
Sauls had five points in his team’s 9-0 run to close the first half, and Puzyk hit three 3-pointers in the first 5:37 to key the 15-4 surge that opened the second half.
Houston Baptist was winless in 12 previous road games this season.
Wilkerson had a game-high 18 points to lead the Highlanders.
