LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) -Jahmar Young hit four 3-point buckets and scored 32 points to lead New Mexico State to an 89-81 win against San Jose State on Thursday.
NMSU (10-11, 4-4 Western Athletic Conference) marked their ninth consecutive series victory against the Spartans (9-10, 3-5 WAC).
In a late surge by the Spartans, Tim Pierce hit four field goals in a 9-0 run by San Jose State to take the lead at 72-68 before the Spartan freshman added a lay up and drew a foul to capture a 75-70 advantage with five minutes left to play.
Young followed with a 3-pointer and a lay up, and with 3:50 remaining Troy Gillenwater hit a 2-point bucket to tie the game at 77-77.
Jonathan Gibson put NMSU ahead 79-77 with a pair of foul shots, then sealed the victory with a 3-point shot that fell with three seconds on the shot clock and 53 seconds in regulation.
