MIAMI, Ohio (AP) – Demetrius Ward scored 21 points to lead Western Michigan to a 73-68 overtime victory over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday.
The Broncos (11-9, 4-3 Mid-American Conference) went 4 of 5 from the field (80 percent) in overtime after shooting 51.9 percent (14 of 27) in the second half to rally from a 14-point halftime deficit.
Western Michigan never trailed in OT, building a 69-65 lead on Juwan Howard Jr.’s jumper with 3:55 left. Miami’s Orlando Williams converted a three-point play to make the score 69-68, but that was all the RedHawks (9-12, 4-3) scored in OT.
The RedHawks hit six 3-pointers and shot 53.8 percent from the floor (14 of 26) to take a 42-28 halftime lead.
Matt Stainbrook and Howard scored 11 points each and Muhammed Conteh and Mike Douglas added 10 each for Western Michigan.
Julian Mavunga scored 22 points, Williams had 15 and Chris McHenry added 12 for Miami.
