MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -Minnesota backup point guard Kevin Payton has been suspended for academic reasons.
Coach Tubby Smith says the suspension is indefinite. The redshirt junior has appeared in only eight of the team's 18 games this season.
The 21st-ranked Gophers return to action on Thursday night against No. 18 Purdue. Smith says the team also could be without senior center Jon Williams, who suffered a calf injury in practice this week.
